What we need first
For an initial discussion, have the registration number, current mileage, make, model, engine, gearbox and a straightforward description of condition ready.
Service history, number of keys, ownership length and recent maintenance are also useful. If the car has modifications, outstanding faults or cosmetic damage, mention them early.
Direct purchase
Cars For You may buy suitable vehicles directly even if you are not buying another car from us. Whether we are interested depends on age, model, mileage, condition, history and the type of stock we are currently looking for.
Part exchange
If you are buying one of our current vehicles, your existing car can be considered as part of the transaction. An initial figure may be discussed remotely, but the final valuation requires physical inspection.
What affects valuation
- Mileage and overall mechanical condition.
- Service history and supporting invoices.
- Number of owners and length of current ownership.
- Tyre and brake condition.
- Bodywork, wheels and interior condition.
- Warning lights or known faults.
- Modifications from factory specification.
- Number of keys.
- MOT history and remaining test period.
Modified and performance cars
Modifications do not automatically rule out a vehicle. For performance cars, we want to understand exactly what has been changed and whether there is paperwork for the work.
ECU software, suspension, exhaust, intake, wheels, brake upgrades and cosmetic changes should all be mentioned.
Older cars and modern classics
We are also interested in some older enthusiast vehicles. With these cars, history, originality, corrosion and major age-related maintenance often matter more than a simple mileage figure.
Physical inspection
Any firm purchase or part-exchange figure is subject to seeing the car. The purpose is to confirm that the condition, history and specification match the information provided.
Payment and handover
If we agree to purchase your car, payment and handover arrangements are confirmed before ownership changes. Bring all available keys, documents and service-history material.
